A tick is not always an accessible status
Checkmarks commonly mean complete, correct or selected; crosses may mean incorrect, unavailable or close. Because those meanings vary, include a word such as “Complete” or “Failed” when the status matters.
Avoid using color as the only difference between a check and a cross. In forms and interfaces, use the native control where possible instead of a copied character that only looks interactive.
