Styled numbers are separate characters

Circled numbers, superscripts, subscripts and precomposed fractions have their own Unicode identities. They are useful in plain text, but their range is limited and they may not match a document’s surrounding type perfectly.

Use semantic formatting when available: real list numbering, superscript styling or fraction markup is more flexible than replacing every digit with a special character.
